Struggling?
‘In the same way, you younger men must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, serve each other in humility, for “God opposes the proud but favors the humble’ 1 Pet.5:5.
Another major difference between the humble and the proud is that proud people compare themselves with others and feel worthy. As long as their performance rates higher than the next person, they feel better than the next person and in some cases better about themselves. Humble people on the other hand compare themselves with the holiness of God and feel desperate for His mercy. The humble compares himself to the holiness of God and sees wretchedness. It is easy to become proud when your focus is on man but keeping your focus on God helps you stay humble.
For some the struggle is not even in the area of pride or humility. Their struggle in their walk with God is in the area of obedience. And the reason why most people struggle and are still struggling is because they want to figure it all out in their minds before they obey God. ‘You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule’ Matt.5:3 [MSG]. If there is something you have to understand about walking with God it is that Jesus has not called you to figure everything out. He has just said to you ‘follow me!’ The problem with our marriages is that we want to figure everything out. Jesus has not said you should reason everything out even in your marriage. All He has said to you is ‘follow me’. It is God’s plan you are living out and He alone knows the end from the beginning. The challenge with us is that we want to have everything together but there will never be a time that we will have everything together at least not on this earth. Thinking you have everything together is self-deceit. Wait one more day and you will discover that you don’t have anything together! So where exactly is the assurance of peace and comfort that God promises us? It is in the fact that the Person you are following is in charge. Pause and calmly think about that. Like they say, I don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow but I know Who holds tomorrow in His hands. Following Jesus is my preoccupation and guess what, that should be your preoccupation too.
Prayer [song]: You are the pillar that holds my life. [Lord Jesus], You are the pillar that holds my life. Master Jesus, You are the pillar that holds my life (2x).
