Genuine Repentance

‘Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked way, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land’ 2 Chro.7:14

The church is God’s agent for change in the society. We are the catalyst. Therefore the key to the change that we desire in our country lies in out hands. Jesus puts is this way, ‘who ever must lead amongst you must first be the servant’. Our job is to serve our country by standing the gap and going before God. The church in Nigeria must humble themselves and pray and seek God’s face and turn from their wicked way. God has promised to hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. We as the church must pray for a wave of genuine repentance to sweep over us so that Nigeria can be restored to glory by God’s grace.

The Word of God says, ‘when the country is in chaos everybody has a plan to fix it but it takes a leader of real understanding to straighten things out’. In other words, when the country is in chaos everybody becomes a specialist. You find people going on different media, expressing their own expert opinions on how things should have been handled. But the Bible says that only a leader of real understanding can make the needed change. Real understanding can only come from God and knowing God. Therefore in order to get a lasting solution to what we perceive as chaos in our country today, we need to ask God to grow our leaders in the knowledge of Him and in real understanding. Secondly, we need to ask that God will raise leaders of real understanding in this nation and God in His mercy will hear our cry in Jesus Name.

Our next focus as a people is our children; they are the leaders of tomorrow. As a church we need to intercede for our children. Present our children before God so that He ‘…will teach all [our] children,
and they will enjoy great peace. You will be secure under a government that is just and fair. Your enemies will stay far away.
You will live in peace, and terror will not come near’ Isa.54:13-14. It is amazing how God has linked teaching our children to us being secure under government and shutting the door to our enemies. We also must let our prayers impact how we bring up our children.

Prayer: Father, let a wave of genuine repentance sweep across the church in this Nation. Lord, teach our children yourself and secure us under a government that is just and fair. Bless and change Nigeria dramatically, in Jesus Name.
