Reaping Compassion

‘The Lord replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose’ Ex.33:19

I need the mercy of God and I am sure you do too. For many of us the only thing that can get us out of the situation we are in right now is if God will have mercy. People may be ridiculing you for not knowing how to seek God but you know you have prayed and fasted and it has nothing to do with that. It is only the mercy of God that can bring you out of that situation and God will have mercy on you today in Jesus Name. God is saying you need to be merciful because what you sow is what you will reap. That word mercy simply means compassion shown towards offenders. Even when the person has offended you, God expects you to show his/her compassion – that is mercy. Mercy also means compassionate treatment of those under your power. In other words, as the parent in the home even though you have power yet you are compassionate to your domestic staff. Mercy means bringing someone relief from something unpleasant. And God is saying to you and I be merciful because blessed are the merciful for they will obtain mercy. Mercy is so crucial to the nature of God. When Moses asked to see the face of God, God said to him that no one would see Him and live. But Moses insisted, so God agreed to make His goodness pass before Moses while He hides Moses in the cleft of a rock and calls out His name as He passes. And when God was passing it is amazing what God said, ‘Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulnessEx.34:6. In essence, what God is saying is when you want to know Him as a Father then know He is merciful. In fact the most important item in the tabernacle was the ark and on top of the ark was the throne of God. And God named that seat the mercy seat. God could have called it judgment seat and that would that have been correct because God is just. Yet God named it mercy seat because He knows that it is easy for us to look at His greatness and hide. But God is saying come boldly to the throne of grace where we will receive mercy [Heb.4:16].

Prayer: Father, I come before Your throne of grace asking that You will show me mercy today and beyond, in Jesus Name.
