Obtaining Mercy
‘So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most’ Heb.4:16
It is because God is merciful that is why He extends this invitation to you and I. If God were to mark iniquity who can stand? But because there is forgiveness with God therefore we fear Him. God wants you to know Him as a merciful God. For some of us because of the things we have done we think that God cannot even begin to forgive us. For others, they cannot come to terms with God’s mercy because how can God forgive a murderer? I have good news for you, God wants to forgive you. If you want to add up the mercy of God, it would not make sense. You don’t need to look very far, look at yourself. I don’t need to look very far, it is only because of God’s mercy that I can preach the gospel of Christ today. ‘But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much’ Eph.2:4; this was Paul describing God. In other words, if God had a bank account and He gave you His ATM card. When you attempt a withdrawal what will come out will be mercy. He is so rich in mercy that you cannot even exhaust His supply. I want you to settle it in your heart that God is merciful. And for you reading this today, I am saying to you that God’s mercy will over ride the judgment hanging over your head. At one of our special services, a word of knowledge came, God had chosen to forgive and heal a lady who had partaken in eating a baby while she was in the occult. A guest who attended the service that day struggled with it because in his opinion the woman should have been handed to the police. My response was if God has chosen to be merciful then who am I? If the police caught her and chose to persecute her then let her face the law. But the police did not and God said He had forgiven her. It is just like the woman who was caught in adultery and they quoted the law. Jesus did not argue with the law because you cannot win with the law. He simply said that the person that is without sin should throw the first stone. And there were no accusers left. God is saying that He does not accuse you but you need to stop sinning.
Prayer: Father, let Your mercy overturn every judgment that is hanging over my head, in Jesus Name.
