Living Waters

‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled’ Matt.5:6 [NIV].

The Word of God says, ‘the blessings of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow’. But the world is trying to turn it around to read ‘the riches of the world makes blessed and add no sorrow’. Jesus is saying to us that blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled. You may be reading this today and your soul is hungry and your heart is thirsty and you feel this seemingly insatiable longing for something. The feeling is just there and it is constantly nagging. Sometimes when we encounter Jesus it may look ordinary like the Samaritan woman by the well. Jesus was sitting by the well and the woman came to fetch water to quench a physical thirst. And Jesus said to her, ‘if you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water. But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket, she said, and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water?’ John 4:9-10. Jesus kind of disabused her, ‘anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. Please sir,  the woman said, give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get waterJohn 4:13-15. The restlessness and the longing that we have are universal traits of the human heart. The Bible puts it this way, ‘God has put eternity in the hearts of man’. There is this vacuum but unfortunately we keep trying to fill it with many things. Some try to fill it with drinking of alcohol , some with narcotics, some with drugs, some try to fill it with sex even those that are married. Some try to fill it with different kinds of relationships. Some look to legitimate things to fill that vacuum, some wives look to their husbands, some husbands to their wives. Some children look to their parents and some parents look to their children. But at the end of the day if what you are looking to leaves you still feeling depressed, unsatisfied, unfulfilled, then the truth is that you are looking to the wrong thing. Today I am trusting God that you will look to the right thing and that void will be filled with this living waters that springs up unto eternal life.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You asking that Your fountain of life will overflow me, that I will drink and never thirst again, in Jesus Name.
