Legitimate Child

‘Finally, Abraham said, Lord , please don’t be angry with me if I speak one more time. Suppose only ten are found there? And the Lord replied, then I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten’ Gen.18:32.

When Abraham was negotiating with God, he went from fifty, to forty, to thirty, to twenty, and finally to ten people. But in marriage, will you go for one person? So if you have a marriage or a relationship that is not going anywhere because there is constant strife both of them are not peacemakers. When God cannot find one person that is willing to pursue peace in that marriage, the marriage is in trouble. Are you the peacemaker? Now decree over yourself, I am the peacemaker. I see God healing your marriage even right now. Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. Now the word translated children there is the word hulos and it means son. It is not the word teknon that means child. The word teknon that means child is by reason of birth. The Bible says ‘but to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God’. That word children there is teknon meaning child by birth, it is not son-ship. Hulos on the other hand means a legitimate child, as in proper representation of the character of the father. In other words, when we are not peacemakers we are behaving like vagabonds. We are not ‘legitimately’ representing the character of our Father. There is a proverb that says ‘the child of a tiger is a tiger’. I was reading a joke recently of a Chinese couple that lives in Lagos and they gave birth to a child but the child was black. There was problem there immediately. That child is not a legitimate representation of the father. God wants us to legitimately represent His character. In your family when there is trouble, who should be the peacemaker? Teknon was never used to describe Jesus, not once. Hulos was always used instead when they described the son-ship of Jesus. Hulos gives evidence of the dignity of one’s relationship with and likeness to God’s character. Hulos gives evidence of the dignity of your relationship with God. When someone upsets you deeply and you roll up your sleeves and begin to throw punches you have not represented God.

Prayer:  May Heavenly Father, let my daily actions affirm my son-ship, in Jesus Name.
