Keep Your Life
‘For the Scriptures say, if you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it’’ 1Peter 3:10-11
‘In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created…’ John1:1-4. You and I have been created in the image of God. This also means that God has given us power in our mouths and the words we speak. Therefore as children of God we must watch every word that comes out of our mouth. ‘Those who control their tongue will have long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything’ Prov.13:3. Positive speaking finds its roots in the power of words. Again, this is why as Christians we are advised to speak God’s Word over every situation. In doing that, you are invariable speaking life to every situation. Your tongue can either shorten or lengthen your life. What words have you been speaking over your life or over the situations around you? What words are you speaking over your job? If you consistently speak confusion over your work then do not be surprised when all you see around you is confusion. ‘The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences’ Prov.18:21. God in this scripture likened words to seeds. When you speak it is like planting seeds that will yield a harvest. This harvest can be unto life or death. The Bible says we will be asked to give accounts even for the careless words we speak. The things we say to others and to ourselves can adversely affect our lives. God has blessed you with a child but every word you speak over the life of that child is negative. Then you go on your knees night after night crying to heaven meanwhile during the day you are negating every prayer. ‘Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips’ Ps.141:3. Being in a relationship with the Holy Spirit helps to tame our tongues and the words that we speak. Walking with God helps you speak life and not evil over others. We will be quick to pray and support others through trials [Prov.18:20].
Thought: Watch your life and the lives of those whom you influence, it may just be a reflection of words spoken over them. Repent and speak wholesome words.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, place a guard over my mouth and the words that I speak. Help me speak God’s truth and life at all times, in Jesus Name.
