Fulfillment

‘For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous’ 1John3:11-12 [NKJV].

The greatest fulfillment you will have in life will come from your relationships with people. That is, the people that God has put in your life.  The greatest fulfillment you will have will not be from things. It will not be from the car you are driving, or the house you are living in, or the phone that you have, or the amount of money in your bank account. The greatest fulfillment you will ever experience will come from the relationships that God has put in your life. Relationships like our marriage relationship, relationships with our children, life groups, and people who mentor us. God has put us in relationships so that our lives can be fulfilled. Also the greatest pain that you and I will ever have will not be from the things we possess. It will not be from the car even though when we have car trouble we tend to get frustrated. It will not be from the house or from the gargets. The greatest pain you will experience will be from the people that surround you. So it is the relationships that God has put in our lives that are capable of bringing us the greatest fulfillment and are also capable of bring us the greatest pain. And we all respond, particularly to the aspects that deal with pain, differently. Some people enter their shell. Some of us build a cage and put a wall around ourselves because we have been hurt in our past relationships. Some people do not want to get involved with community anymore. You tried to get close to people and they took advantage of you, so you entered into your shell and said to yourself “never again”. They are content with going their own way. And people build up fences in order to protect themselves from pain and inevitably they have shielded themselves from fulfillment. You can never live a fulfilled life, because God has wired our lives in such a way that our fulfillment comes from the quality of the relationships we are in. God has put us in relationships so that our lives can be fulfilled. So who are the people you have walled yourself off from? God is saying it is time to rekindle that link and be fulfilled.

Prayer: Father, I believe that all the people you have put around me are for my good. Help me get over the painful relationships and see the victory in that pain, in Jesus Name.
