Love Response

‘We’re not, understand, putting ourselves in a league with those who boast that they’re our superiors. We wouldn’t dare do that. But in all this comparing and grading and competing, they quite miss the point’ 2 Cor.10:12 [MSG].

Let your every response be deeply rooted in love. The love response comes from your new nature in Christ Jesus. You don’t overcome pride with pride. You only overcome pride with humility. And God is saying regardless of the challenge in your relationship, do not respond like Cain. Do not respond to the issue at hand in the flesh. The flesh by itself cannot love but in your new nature in God, love becomes the very fabric of your being. Do not respond as Cain, God says respond in love. Women are more gifted with their expressions verbally. Usually when a wife’s tongue lashes her husband, it really  feels like you are lashing him with your tongue. If someone is flogging you, the usual temptation is to fight back. That is why some men beat their wives; it is not that they are crazy. The truth is that when you feel someone is flogging you, you do not feel bad flogging the person back. That is what causes confusion. Now in the case of this story, this lady went to her mother who gave her a powerful talisman. She told her daughter that the talisman was as powerful as it was delicate. She instructed her daughter that in the middle of crisis what she is to do is to put the talisman in between her teeth and hold it in place without breaking the talisman. So she took it and she went home. Not long after that, trouble started so she put the talisman between her teeth and held it firmly in place as delicately as possible. Her husband was ready for a fight but because the talisman must not break she could not talk. So the man did all the talking and expressed himself and she did not respond. This happened over and over and by the third time the man decided to call a truce with his wife and talk things over. And the lady went to the mother and filled her with stories of the power of the talisman that her mother had given her. And the mother said to her, ‘it is not the talisman but you have a big mouth. It is just chalk and her mother crushed it. How have you been responding amidst the storm? Choose today to hold love firmly between your teeth.

Prayer: Father, grace me for every single one of my relationships and the challenges that I would encounter. Put a guard over my mouth Lord, in Jesus Name
