Check Your Readiness II

For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her’ Eph.4:25.

Men let’s check your readiness. God forbid, but let’s say you find yourself in a situation where you are asked to pick who dies between you and your wife. God expects you to step forward and take the bullet. That is what is in the Bible – that is the kind of love that Jesus is talking about, the love that can sacrifice himself. In other words, a selfish man is not ready to get married. Selfishness and marriage do not go together. If you are a selfish man your marriage won’t work. A selfish attitude would be a problem because the man is supposed to lay down his life for his family. Meaning anyone that tries to attack your wife, maybe your mother or your relative, would have to kill you first.

The Bible did not say love your wife when she is well behaved or when she learns to control her mouth. The Bible says, as Christ loved the church. How did Christ love the church? While we were yet sinners, while we were yet without strength, Jesus died for us. So if you have any doubt in your heart that your husband can make these sacrifices then you need to have some tough discussions. Men take the initiative before she asks and tell her you can do it. But we pray ‘lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil’ Lord. Yet the willingness to do it must be present. So the question again is, are you ready for that level of sacrifice? Some men boast of punishing their wives. God did not give you your wife for you to punish her. God gave you your wife for you to love her. If you feel you have to punish and discipline your wife then something is wrong with you. The heart is wrong and the approach is totally wrong. Jesus loved the church into submission. You are to love your wife into submission. As men we try to use what we have to control our domain. Some men use their intellect to bamboozle and make their wives look like fools. Others use their money to control their wives or put her in check. If you have to do that then something is wrong with you. You have a complex and you are a weak man. A strong man will love his family to submission.

Prayer: Father, please help me to stand as the progenitor, protector, priest, provider, and prophet over my home, in Jesus Name.
