Anti-Seduction Strategy I

‘Don’t be so naive and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence’’1 Cor.10:12 [MSG].

Before we delve into the anti-seduction strategies, there are two things you need to know about seduction. Firstly, anyone can be seduced. ‘You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else’. Those who are in ministry have noticed that that anointing does not resist temptation. Secondly, not everyone can be seduced. It may appear contradictory but it is not. ‘Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall’’ 2 Pet.1:10 [KJV]. And these things are what I have labeled the anti-seduction strategies, things that you can put in place in your life to make it seduction proof. ‘But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy peopleEph.5:3 [NIV]. God says not even a hint. This means you are not allowed to flirt because flirting is giving someone a hint. Say out loud to yourself “I am not allowed to flirt because I belong to God”. Not a hint of sexual immorality.

Anti-seduction strategy one: RUN, RUN, RUN! As children, there was a call and response game we played which applies to this strategy. ‘Call: there is fire on the mountain. Response: run run run!’ When you see somebody stirring up fire in you what you do is run from him or her physically. They can get angry with you, they may not even speak to you again but it is fine. ‘Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body1 Cor.6:18. God did not say resist sexual sin. God said run. More men have fallen by trying to or thinking they can resist it or they can handle it. God is saying, ‘I am not trusting you to handle it, I am telling you to run’ [my translation]. My grandmother would say run and let your legs touch the back of your head. And the word run there was translated by someone to mean run as if your life depended on it. In other words, run as if – if you stop you would die. Running and strolling are not the same thing. A lot of us are just strolling away from sexual sin. God says run!

Prayer:  Father, teach my legs to obediently run from sexual sin, in Jesus Name.
