You Decide

‘Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond…’ Rom.12:2 [MSG]

When it comes to every area of our lives, everyone must decide what will be the authority. You have to decide what will dictate the things you do and how you do the things you do. You could either accept the culture as the authority in your life or you could accept the Word of God as the authority in your life. If you are a believer in Christ Jesus then you should accept the Word of God as the authority in your life. Regardless of what the culture is saying or doing, the Word of God should remain the authority in your life. But because we are in this world, the culture has an influence on us and we tend to want to flow with the culture of the land. But at every point in time we have to stop and realign with the Word of God. I am praying that as we open our hearts to Jesus, God will realign us. Today’s devotional is rated PG18.

Now Adam had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant…’ Gen.4:1. The King James Version says ‘and Adam knew his wife…’. Back in the day, I tried to understand how an introduction could lead to pregnancy. Thank God for newer translations of the Bible, they complement the older versions. I would advise that your study Bible be in a translation that you can understand so that you won’t miss what God is saying to you daily. The Bible says Adam had sex with his wife. Now say sex. Then say Jesus. Which one did you feel most comfortable saying out loud? Jesus, right? The reason why we experience that struggle within us is because our idea of sex has been tied to filth. We struggle because we kind of see sex as something that should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Jesus. Well I have news for you, Jesus is here and He does not mind. A lot of people have developed a holier than God attitude. Some time ago, I was staying in the same guest house with a Muslim man and we got talking about God. By my estimation, he was tilting towards accepting Christ. Then he stopped and said he has a problem with the Christian faith. He said ‘how can Songs of Solomon be in the Bible – a holy book?’ I have news for you, sex was and is God’s idea. As we delve deeper over the next few days, let God’s Word renew you from the inside out.

Prayer: Father, let Your Word change me from the inside out, in Jesus Name.
