Retention Capacity I

Principle #8 is the capacity principle. The capacity principle simply states that a container cannot retain more than its capacity. For instance, someone has a two-liter container. Then the contents of a hundred liter tank are emptied into the two-liter container. At the end of the day that container will only retain two-liters. So capacity is more important than anything else. You and I need to invest in our capacity. We need to read, stretch our minds, and stretch our capacity. ‘So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another.  Soon every container was full to the brim! “Bring me another jar”, she said to one of her sons. “There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing’ 2 kings 4:5-6. She kept pouring the oil but as soon as the vessels finished, as soon as she ran out of capacity, the oil stopped. The problem was not the oil because the source never runs out. The problem usually is the capacity of the person.

You and I need to increase our capacity to believe. God is saying He will do ‘X’ with us but sadly some of us don’t believe Him. For some, as you opened today’s devotional God told you what He is going to do with you but you still didn’t believe. For others, God has told you before now what He is going to do with you and you still don’t believe. You need to increase your capacity to believe. For some, when they were earning fifty thousand a month, they had no problem with tithing. God promotes them to earn a hundred thousand a month and they tithe without complains. Then God promotes them to earn a million a month and they stall but tithe eventually. Then God promotes them to earn ten million a month and they start to negotiate. Then God blesses them with a hundred million a month and they begin to question what the church uses tithes for. What you are saying to God is that this level of promotion is beyond your capacity so He should scale you down. So heaven starts to scale you down and perhaps when you get back to five hundred thousand and you don’t have a problem with tithing then heaven will leave you there. It is a capacity issue.
