I See A Gift
‘Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it’ Prov.22:6 [AMP].
As a parent, whether spiritual or biological, it is important to be discerning. For some people, the enemy is trying to push their gifting in directions that do not glorify God. This is where you come in as a parent; nurture your child back into the way of the Lord. There was a lady I used to disciple. This lady could lie. She could tell you that it’s dark outside at noon even though you can see its bright outside. And she would shed hearty tears and you will be forced to reconsider that maybe it is really dark. She told me that everybody had given up on her. Even her mum thinks she is a perpetual lair. I told her I see a gift called the ‘gift of drama’. Drama is make-believe right. Taking what is not and making it seem like it is. She is heavily gifted in that area and is now pursuing a career in Nollywood by God’s grace. Some of us can talk naturally while others find it difficult to talk. God can use everything. Some of us can cook; they know how to mix these things. Some can’t cook and some are average at cooking. If you are average at cooking you have no business being a chef at a restaurant. People don’t pay for average. John Maxwell puts it this way, everyone on a scale of one to ten, there is something that you are doing right now that you are either a 2,3,4,5,6,7,8. But the problem with a lot of people is that they are trying to improve areas where they are 2, 3, or 4. According to John Maxwell, no man can improve more than two points. So if you focus on areas where you are a 3, you can only improve as much as a 5 and that is just average. I have made up my mind not to be average. I know my 1,3,4 and I know that there are people who are 8, 9 in those same arrears. So I leave them to do it and I focus on my 7,8,9. If I focus on my 8 and improve two notches, I become a 10. So you will discover that I don’t do everything. God has put people around me that are 10’s in certain things that I am 1. Honestly the things they do and they do it well, I have no interest in doing those things. I used to do them and it was totally frustrating. Understand this is key to excellence.
Prayer: Father, help me identify my gifting(s) that I am great at and give me the grace to work towards excellence, in Jesus Name.
