The Bridge

‘I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life’ John 5:24

What exactly is the bridge? On one side there is a God and on the other side there is man. Between God and man there is a gulf [gap, space]. The gulf [space or separation] was caused by man’s desire to do things his own way and not God’s way. It was man’s rebellion against God’s approaches that separated man from God. In simple terms, man disobeyed God. The reason why it is important to use words like rebellion or disobedience is because not everyone knows what sin means. The term rebellion is what the Bible calls sin. As human begins, our tendency to rebel is amazing. That rebellion against God is what the Bible refers to as sin. And that is what has created a gap between God and man. It is not that God’s hands are too short to save us but sin has separated us from Him. Man has tried several ways, for decades and centuries, to bridge this gap with self-righteousness. Yet even the best of our righteousness before a holy God is as filthy rags – it is nothing. Man came up with different religious systems and different religions have been birthed in an attempt to bridge this gap. There is no religious system that has been formulated that can bridge that gap. The simplest definition for religion is man’s way to God. You must have heard before that Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is God’s way to man. If man has a way to God and God has a way to man which one do you think will be more reliable? There is no amount of effort we can make on our own that can bridge the gap. So to bridge this gap God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross so that man can access God. God himself bridged the gap by sending Jesus. Jesus said, ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; nobody can come to God except by Me’. So for you to make peace with God you have to come through Jesus. ‘I tell you the truth; those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life’ John 5:24. That is God’s story. Can you now tell this story? Your job and my job is to tell the story in a humble, graceful, wise, non-condescending way to people.

Prayer: Father, even as You lead me to people that need to hear Your story please help me tell it with humility and wisdom, in Jesus Name.
