Cultivate Hunger

‘When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches.My soul follows close behind You;
Your right hand upholds me’ Ps.63:6 & 8 [NKJV].

Don’t be satisfied with knowing a friend of God. Don’t be satisfied that your husband or wife is a friend of God. Stir up a craving within you, a craving to pursue real friendship with God. I had an experience some years ago; I was on a flight that almost crashed. The aircraft was in free fall for at least thirty seconds. We were going through what the pilot described as a field of lightening mines. People sitting by the window could literally see the lightening tearing through the sky. Any one of those lightning bolts could strike the aircraft. A friend of mine said his younger brother was on the same flight. He said his brother said he was watching me, when every one was shouting, I did not shout. He said I just closed my eyes and opened them and then remained calm. And that he said to himself, this guy is on this flight so it cannot crash. I did not even see his brother. I am not saying it was because I was on that flight that the plane did not crash. But I was saying to my friend won’t it have been lovely if that were a milestone of friendship with God. That someone can look at you and say this plane will not crash because you are here. Wouldn’t it have been lovely for him to be able to say about himself because I am in this plane it will not crash. God wants us to pursue friendship with Him by ourselves.

‘So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on’ 1Sam.16:13. The same people that mocked you will celebrate you; they will not have a choice. The key to being celebrated lies in pursuing a relationship with God. David said, ‘Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies’ because for years they fought David. ‘thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over’. This can be your story today. You too can say ‘Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me’. You need to know this God by yourself. It’s not enough that your mother is a prayer warrior or that God has a plan for you. You have to draw near to God.

Prayer [song]: Draw me close to you. Never let me go. I lay it all down again. To hear you say that I’m your friend. You are my desire…  You’re all I want. You’re all I’ve ever needed. You’re all I want. Help me know you are near.
