Heart Check V

‘So Samuel did as the Lord instructed. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town came trembling to meet him. “What’s wrong?” they asked. “Do you come in peace?” “Yes,” Samuel replied’ 1 Sam.16:4.

Think about it, who anointed David king? The number one prophet in the land, Samuel sent by God. This same Samuel was feared within and outside of Israel. Samuel was such a powerful man of God that the Bible says that in the days of Samuel, the philistines did not attack Israel. You know why? They tried and Samuel engaged the supernatural and the philistines were hearing the voice of God. The Bible says there was confusion in their midst and they resolved never to go back as long as Samuel was alive – never! Samuel entered Bethlehem and the elders were trembling. Samuel anointed David but David had to wait. But some people, one little inspiration and they just run ahead of themselves. That is foolishness. Wait, be patient, as long as it is God – God will make it happen. David was patient; David had a patient heart. In fact, after David was anointed king, he met a national crisis – goliath. The incumbent king and his army were all afraid. And David says, ‘I am the anointed king spiritually so I’m going to take responsibility for this nation’. What did David do? He fought and killed goliath. When David did that, what did the women do? They took tambourines and were going around singing ‘Saul has killed his thousands and David has killed his ten thousands’. Sometimes when I read this passage I am almost convinced that it could be the devil that inspired those women. If you understand what happened to David after that display, you will know what I mean. It didn’t help David’s cause. It actually made matters worse. Yet instead of letting that fuel pride in his heart, David ignored the praises and went back to the wilderness where God located him in the first place. Be patient and God will bring you into your destiny. My grandmother would say “They are cooking soup for you but you are going to taste the raw oil and water. What’s wrong with you? Be patient, you are the one that will eat the soup”. She used to say it to us as single men. You have a lady you want to get married to, don’t sleep with her before marriage. Be patient and wait, after all she is going to become your wife. Don’t eat the soup while it is still raw because it can cause stomach troubles. Develop a patient heart.

Prayer: Father, help me find rest in the fact that it is You who would bring my into the plans that You have for me. So that I will not be trying to acquire in my own strength what You alone can do, in Jesus Name.
