Heart Check IX

‘One day David asked, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive – anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”’ 2 Sam.9:1.

A Loyal heart. David’s heart was loyal. Sadly, loyalty is something that is becoming very scarce as the years goes by. But it is something that is always rewarded by heaven. David had a loyal heart, even to his dead friend Jonathan [2 Sam.9:1]. Imagine that, Jonathan was dead but David remained loyal to him.  Many people are only loyal to people that they can get value from later. People are loyal only to people that they can get something from. So for a lot of people loyalty is about what they stand to profit. But David was loyal even when Jonathan could not profit him. David was even loyal to Saul. Please read 1 Samuel 24. Why was David running from Saul? What will happen if David and Saul were left alone to battle it out man to man? Man to man, Saul did not stand a chance against David. Where was Saul when goliath was threatening Israel? He was hiding in the tent. But David ran from him because he was feeble. David was not running because he could not protect himself but because he knew that if he had to protect himself, he may have to kill Saul. And David did not want to kill Saul. God had anointed David to take over from and Saul but Saul insisted on giving David trouble. A lot of people will take the anointing as a license to give Saul trouble. But not David, he remained loyal to Saul. David found Saul asleep in a cave while David was still running from Saul. Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab one of David’s men asked for permission to strike Saul. These men were men of war. David had trained them well. David himself was a warrior. ‘And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?1Sam.26:9 But Saul is a backslidden king, he is in sin, and he is not in right standing with God. But he was anointed. A lot of people are complicating their destinies just by missing just this. The internet has turned everyone to experts and people feel it is acceptable to shred “men of God” on social media. You can do it if you want but you will face the consequences. Are “men of God perfect?” Maybe not. ‘He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm’ Ps.105:14-15 [KJV].

Prayer: Father, teach my heart to be loyal to You and let my service be unto You, in Jesus Name.
