Starting Point
‘So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God’ Rom.5:11
Today I want to share an experience with you that happened to me over ten years ago. It is not all together new but some of you might be reading this for the first time. I trust that God will breath on it a fresh and use it to grow you in enquiring from the Lord. I was on a flight and sitting beside me was this frail old Caucasian woman. As is customary for me, I asked the Holy Spirit, “Who is this lady?” If I am going to be sitting beside someone for six hours then I want to know who the person is. And the Holy Spirit said, “She is a missionary”. A missionary? How can she be a missionary, she could not even put on her own seat belt. She asked me to help her and so I helped her with the seatbelt. I said, “Holy Spirit, You have started pulling my legs again”. So I reclined my seat and I slept off. At some point I woke up and for some reason we began to talk. And she told me that she is a missionary and has been since she was eighteen. She has never been married and she was in her eighty’s or ninety’s. She said she was retiring and going back to Texas because she could no longer function on mission field. She told me about the things that God had done through her. Amazing! By now, as you can imagine, I was afraid.
Then the flight landed and she said, “Young man, let me pray for you”. You know how inside the plane can be when it lands – everyone is standing around, taking their luggage or waiting to get out. And she began to pray with her loud Texan accent and she wasn’t praying quietly. “O God, bless this young man…”. I was embarrassed, can’t this woman see all these people. Such things really do not bother people that know God. If you want to pray over your food and you are still whispering, it is because you don’t know God. People that know God are bold and strong. She didn’t even know if I was saved because we didn’t talk about salvation. All this happened because I decided to ask the Holy Spirit “who is this person”. It starts at the point of relationship. Are you one of those who used to have a relationship with God or do not even know where to begin with God. If you will surrender your heart to Jesus today and ask him to be Lord of your life. He will say yes and your life will change forever.
