Instructions To Obey

‘Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do’ Josh.1:8.

Goliath is a very popular character in the Bible and his fall made room for David’s promotion. As the goliath’s fall in our lives this season, promotion will follow suit in Jesus Name. David was a shepherd boy, he was just a no name, tending to sheep and goats. But David had an unusual trait and that is David is a communicator. There is something in David that just wants to have a conversation. And when David was in the wilderness where there was no one to have a conversation with, David looked to the God of heaven and said ‘the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want’. David struck up conversations with Jehovah. In fact the relationship between David and God is so amazing. And it is instructive to us that God wants to talk to us. God wants to talk to you and God wants you to talk to Him. God wants to have a conversation with you and I. David had an amazing relationship with God that is based on his uncanny nature to have a conversation. David would say, ‘You are my rock, You are my buckler, You are my defense, You are my high tower, You are the glory and the lifter up of my head’. God was extremely delighted in David, the beloved of the Lord. And when David was enroute to meet with and kill goliath, David had five conversations. There were five conversations that led to the fall of goliath. So for the next few days we will be looking at the five conversations that led to the fall of goliath. And by the time we are done every goliath before you will fall, in Jesus Name.

The conversation with Jesse. The first conversation that David had was with Jesse his father. Jesse called David and told him to take bread, provisions, and supplies to his brothers. David agreed, packed up the things and left. David’s conversation with Jesse led to obedience. Sometimes, the Jesses in our lives are human beings and sometimes it is the Lord. The Jesses are the people that are in authority over us and the conversation is usually instructional. David had just been anointed king and he could easily have allowed that to become pride in his heart. How can a king be running errands and carrying load back and forth when he should be sitting on his throne? If David had gone in that direction, he would have died an anointed shepherd boy. So the question to you is what is Jesse telling you or what has Jesse told you?

Prayer: Father, help me stay in constant conversation with You, teach me to pray without ceasing, in Jesus Name.
