Walking with God
‘I will set My dwelling in and among you, and My soul shall not despise or reject or separate itself from you. And I will walk in and with and among you and will be your God, and you shall be My people’ Lev. 26:11-12.
God wants to have a relationship with you. Through Jesus, He established a more personal relationship with us were we can talk to Him personally and not through a priest. Walking with God requires two things; agreeing with God and pleasing God.
Agreement: Walking with God requires an agreement [Amos 3:3]. You must ask yourself truthfully, are you in agreement with God over everything in your life? Paul admonishes us to test ourselves to be sure we are truly walking with God. You cannot walk with Him without agreeing with Him. For example, are you in agreement with God about what He says concerning your health? Do you even know what He says about your health? If you don’t know then you cannot agree and if you do not agree then how can you walk with Him. Knowing God is knowing His Word. Agreeing with God comes from knowing God. The reason why we are saved today [for those of us that are saved] is because we agreed with Him. If you are not saved yet, you need to agree with God today.
Pleasing God: You need to please God. You take time out to find out what pleases Him and make this your priority daily. Pleasing God is an action that expresses your desire to make God happy while you walk with Him here on earth. You have to be deliberate about pleasing God in all you do.
It is important to know that agreeing with God and pleasing God are two very different things. You can agree with someone on a direction but both of you can fight until you get to that destination. Similarly, walking with God takes agreeing with Him, and then pleasing Him. Agreement has to do with the destination; pleasing God has to do with the journey. Agreement has to do with eternity, pleasing God has to do with the here and now. Everyone has an eternal destiny; everyone will die and face God one day. Agreeing with God means securing your eternal destiny – in that single act of agreement you have expressed your desire to walk with God and be with Him in heaven. It takes these two things to really walk with God, He has done His end; you do yours. Agreement and pleasing God are acts of volition. Every man has been given the freedom to choose.
Prayer: Father, as I daily engage in reading the Word, reveal Yourself to me in every Word so that I will know You, agree with You, and please You, in Jesus Name.
