“Jesus replied, “Moses permitted divorce only as a concession to your hard hearts, but it was not what God had originally intended. And I tell you this, whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery—unless his wife has been unfaithful.” Matt.19:8-9
Today we will be dealing with the follow up question to the question on marriage. “Jesus’ disciples then said to him, “If this is the case, it is better not to marry! “Not everyone can accept this statement,” Jesus said. “Only those whom God helps” Matt.19:10-11. Until you see that it is better not to marry, you are not fit to marry. What I mean is this; until you see marriage as serious as it is, you are not fit to marry. Why? It is because if you don’t, you are going to cause problems for your spouse. Of course Jesus now said to them, some can take it, but some cannot. But the key thing is this, once you are married, you are married! Someone says but I received the Word that God will do a new thing in my life, so I want a new wife. My response? God will refurbish the one you have and make her as good as new. And the Church say – Amen! Know this; divorce was not what God had originally intended.
The question on resurrection. “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name.’ Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children, so his brother married the widow… This continued with all seven of them. So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her.” Matt.22:24-26 & 28. I think about this question and if I were the third born I will definitely not marry this same girl who the first and second have married and died. I would simply refuse. A lot of these questions were just trick questions. They were trying to trap Jesus. If I were Jesus I will just say that scenario is impossible because the seventh born will not marry the girl. But Jesus said to them, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God. For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage…” Matt.22:29-30. Jesus was basically saying to them, ‘listen guys you are just totally ignorant. You don’t even know the Scriptures; neither do you know the power of God. In heaven there is no marriage’. Married or single, say this out loud to yourself – there is no marriage in heaven. So stop killing yourself over marriage, there’s no marriage in heaven. Your time here on earth is short compared to the time we will spend in eternity with Jesus and guess what, there is no marriage there because there is neither male nor female in heaven. Our earthly forms permit marriage. But you are just in a male or female body. When this body goes, the image is the same– His image. Jesus silenced the Sadducees.
Prayer: Father, please give me complete knowledge of Your will, spiritual wisdom and understanding so that the way I live will please You, in Jesus Name [Col.1:9-10].
