What Do You Know?

Then, surrounded by the Pharisees, Jesus asked them a question: “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” They replied, “He is the Son of David” Matt.22:41-42.

Then The Answer [Jesus] introduces a twist to the questions flying back and forth. Jesus, The Answer, asks a question. When Jesus asks you a question it is definitely not to gain insight because He already knows the answer. When The Answer asks you a question it’s one of two things; it’s either He wants to shut you up or He wants to help you. In the above quoted scripture, Jesus bamboozled them. Jesus knew these people were so set in their hierarchical set up that they couldn’t comprehend the Son as the Lord. And the Bible records, “No one could answer him. And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questionsMatt.22:46. They probably said amongst themselves, ‘let us just leave this man alone’. Do you remember Job and his encounter with God? I am paraphrasing: God said to Job, ‘who is this that is talking, offering counsel with darkness? What is wrong with you? Come here Job, were you there when the foundations of the earth were made? Job said no Sir. Jesus said come, look at those mountains, when they came together were you the one that spoke it? Job said no Sir. God said to him, are you the one that commands the day to come and can you command the ends of the earth to shake the wicked ones out of their places, Job? Job said no Sir. By this time Job must have been crying. God wanted to show Job that regardless of what you are going through, trial or not, I am still God! God said to him, look at Leviathan; are you the one that put the hook in his nose? Can you tame the Leviathan? Job said no Sir. God said come, look at the depth of the ocean- can you measure its depth? Job said no Sir. When God asks you a question it may be just to shut you up. What do you know? Just trust God. There won’t be a need for faith if you could figure everything out. Just trust God! [Read Job 38-42].

The second reason why The Answer will ask you a question is to help you. [Read Mark 10:46-52]. Every one could see that the man was blind but Jesus stood before him and asked him what can I do for you? Bartimaeus could have asked for five shillings. In which case Jesus would have handed him over to Judas. But Bartimaeus said, ‘that I may receive my sight’ and Jesus healed him. Your response when The Answer asks you a question is very critical. Jesus is going to ask you a question today to help you. Recognize who is asking the questions and respond from your heart. God will help all of us, in Jesus Name.

Prayer: Father, all wisdom belongs to You and no one can know except You reveal. I acknowledge Your Sovereignty and I am saying, help Me Lord, in Jesus Name.
