Reliable God!
“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end” Ecc.3:11
Reliability is something that we crave in our relationships. If you are in any kind of relationship with anyone, you will subconsciously crave for the person to be at least reliable. Imagine having colleagues that are not reliable and having to work on the same project with them. As a businessman, imagine having some employees that are just not reliable. Now imagine you have siblings that are everything but reliable; it’s like a broken tooth. Or imagine having an unreliable spouse. The pain will be unbearable and it is because we require reliability, even from things we own. We want things and people to be dependable. Even with your car, you expect some level of reliability. You want to be able to start your car and it responds. In my opinion, I think the Rolls Royce is one of the most reliable cars ever made. They started production in 1906 and 65% of Rolls Royce cars ever produced are still motorable today – reliable! Most people don’t check their living room chairs before they sit in them. We take it for granted because we have come to expect reliability even in things we own and in the relationships we have.
To be reliable simply means to be faithful; to be consistently good in quality or performance; to be trusted. So, are you reliable? Faithful means to be utterly trustworthy and totally reliable. And if there is someone that is utterly trustworthy and totally reliable, His name is Jesus. “Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever” Heb13:8. Even a Rolls Royce will eventually breakdown or as they say just refuse to proceed. But Jesus is forever reliable. He is the only friend that you can have that is consistently behind you and will never fail. However, we tend to doubt the reliability of Jesus for a couple of reasons. We will be looking at these reasons over the next few days and it is our prayer that God will help us deal with them and totally trust in the reliability of Jesus, no matter what.
Firstly, we tend to doubt His reliability because of our own timing. “Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died… When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.” John11:21 & 32. Mary and Martha doubted the reliability of Jesus when He did not show up before Lazarus died. But what Mary and Martha did not realize was that Jesus was not operating in their timing.
Thought: Be the kind of person you would like to attract.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for being totally trustworthy and reliable. Every time I call, whether night or day, You come and save me, thank You Lord, in Jesus Name.
