Key To Identity II

“The people of Reuben and Gad named the altar “Witness,” for they said, “It is a witness between us and them that the Lord is our God, too.” Josh.22:34

People will regard you differently because you draw your identity from God Himself. You do not strive. Take note, the people that know God do not strive. They do not politic, they do not backbite, and they do not think they have to pull down anyone so they can get ahead. The people that know God, the scripture says, they will be strong and they would do exploits. The people that know God know that as they go into their office, angels are following them. They know angels have access to files and can shuffle things in their favour. So they are not disturbed. When we remember what God says about us, we actually forget what people say about us – good or bad. When you are servicing the altar and you are communing with God, when the remembrance of what God says about you is fresh in your mind, you forget what people are saying about you – good or bad. So you are not defined by the praises of men, neither are you defined by the criticism of men. People will criticize you and maybe it will be hurtful. But when you visit the altar, you focus on Jesus. And as Jesus tells you who you are, you forget what any other person says about you. Why? Because what God says is what defines you. Someone put it so well, – “when we are obsessed with what people are saying about us, it is proof that we have forgotten what God has said about us”. How can you be obsessed about somebody criticizing you, calling you names, abusing you, and passing wrong information about you? If that is your obsession, then it is proof that you have forgotten who God says you are. Even if your obsession is not criticism but it is the praise, then you have forgotten what God says about you. They say your hair is nice, but they said it on Monday and this is Friday. Should this now become what takes your attention? It is good for people to complement you but that should not define you. Otherwise, you’ll be in trouble because when people are happy they will complement you and when they are sad they will criticize you. You have to be immune to criticism and praise of men and focus on what God has said and is saying about you.

The altar is a place of Spirituality. Please read Genesis 28:10-20. The altar is where the old man dies and the new man comes to life. The altar is where my flesh dies and God’s Spirit is empowered and rekindled in me.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I pray that all my actions will be rooted in my knowledge of You, in Jesus Name.
