Sold Out?

“So Elisha returned to his oxen and slaughtered them. He used the wood from the plow to build a fire to roast their flesh. He passed around the meat to the townspeople, and they all ate. Then he went with Elijah as his assistant” 1 Kings 19:21

The reason there are so many unhappy people is because a lot of people have made chasing happiness their preoccupation. Happiness is not an end but when you are fulfilling your purpose you will be happy. When you are fulfilling your purpose you will have pain but when you are fulfilling your purpose you will also have pleasure. Pleasure and pain comes with the package. Focus on God and it will be God’s responsibility to direct your path. My job is to trust in God with all my heart, no cunning moves or gimmicks. Whole-heartedly trust in God who promises to direct your path. You have to personally resolve to trust this God that has said He will direct my path God with all your heart. Remember the question is whose plan? I trust that you will choose God’s plan [amen] but don’t just mouth it, wrestle with it. Whose plan do you really want to live for? Wrestle with it.

The second question is am I sold out? Have I given myself completely to this course? “The purpose of life is not to be happy, nor to achieve pleasure nor avoid pain, but to do the will of God, come what may” Martin Luther King junior. Being sold out to the will of God is the purpose of life. Being sold out does not mean everybody is going to become a Pastor. God may call you to the media, or to business, or to education, or to policy-making, be sold out to the will of God in whatever area He calls you to. The story of Elijah and Elisha is so instructive on this particular subject. God told Elijah to anoint Elisha as his successor and Elijah obeyed God threw the mantle on Elisha. “So Elisha returned to his oxen and slaughtered them. He used the wood from the plow to build a fire to roast their flesh. He passed around the meat to the townspeople, and they all ate. Then he went with Elijah as his assistant” 1 Kings 19:21. Imagine that! This was a businessman that was fully established, he had his own oxen, and he was profitable. Then this man of God that needs anger management classes and can call bears out of the woods to eat up little children, that can call fire from heaven and roast innocent people, and God is saying follow him. Many of us will consider Elijah’s unstable behavior and keep the business as a back up plan just in case. But not Elisha, he burnt his bridges, killed his oxen and used the wood of the yoke as firewood to roast the oxen. Then he distributed everything to his town’s people, kissed them goodbye and left every thing. Sold out! Are you sold out to this course?

Prayer: Lord teach me, Lord help me to be completely sold out [spirit, soul, and body] to Your plans and purposes for my life, in Jesus Name.
