Freedom vs. License?

“Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism…” Rom.6:1-2

Grace is freedom from sin, grace is not license to sin! If you do not understand grace, you would think grace is license to sin. You would think it acceptable to sin and you can always come back to the Blood of Jesus for cleansing. That was what Paul was addressing when he said to the Romans should you continue sinning so that grace should abound, God forbid. In other words, that is not what grace is about. Grace has set you free from sin and grace will keep you. “But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News…” Col.1:23. It is possible to drift away. I was speaking to someone and the person was telling me how for all her Christian life till recently she really did not understand grace. She really didn’t understand that God accepts her. She thought she needed to do something and do more things. So of course she was driving herself crazy. Then I said to her that is just the Word of God. By the grace of God when I gave my life to Jesus I just accepted that. And this must be our mindset with everything with God, just believe it. If it is preached and you do not believe it then you cannot receive it. But when it is preached, you have to believe it and then you receive it that is how the Kingdom works. Salvation has to be preached because there can be no salvation without the preacher. It has to be preached, you have to believe it then you are saved. The same thing applies to healing, prosperity, salvation, holiness – it has to be preached, then you have to believe it then you receive it. Not because that is when God is doing the work, God has done the work but that is when you enter into it. Same thing with your walk with Christ – it has to be preached, you have to believe. This is the reason why the Church is suffering in their walk with Christ because it is not being preached. So people are not believing it and people are not walking in it. It has to be preached. So I said to her almost immediately after I gave my life to God, I came in contact with 2Cor.5:17 “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new”. And for some strange reason I believed this Word and my life changed drastically. It was total a change but it did not take three years, it was almost instantaneous. Why? It is because I believed it. I believe God’s Word. So believe me when I tell you that it has the power to change your life drastically and instantaneously.
