True Humility
“Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God” John 13:3 [emphasis added]
Scripture is clear, Jesus knew who He was. He knew how powerful He was. Many of us think people are humble because they are downtrodden and they do not know who they are. Humility is “knowing” who you are and laying it aside. False humility is trying to pretend that you do not even know who you are. True humility is “knowing” who you are and laying it aside. Jesus knew who He was and He went down on His knees and washed the feet of His disciples. So the question for you and I is, what do you do when it suddenly dawns on you that you are the most important person in the room? Of course God is there and He is the most important but after God it is you. What do you do? When you enter a community and all of a sudden you are the most important person in that community, what do you do? What you do is you get up and you serve. That is what Jesus did. You get up and you serve others. What do you do when you find out that in your house you are the most important person? The man discovers he is the most important person. What should he do? He should go to the kitchen and wash the dishes. That is the Kingdom of God! Again I understand that some of us will struggle with this but it is the Word of God. And we must apply it to our own lives to understand and appreciate the full implication of what God expects otherwise it does not make sense. It is either we apply this Word or we don’t ,but this is what the Bible says. What do you do when as a Pastor you walk into church and there is water on the floor? You pick up the mop and clean it up. And that is why I do all that I do because if the most “Anointed Person” on earth can wash the feet of His disciples then what is wrong with my hands? Why can’t I?
Sometimes when you read that Scripture, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, some of us do not really understand it. So permit me paint another picture. Imagine you walk through mud to get to house fellowship and as you walk in your leader gets down on his knees and washes your feet. Or imagine driving to church through puddles and mud. Then Pastor goes on his knees and by the time you come out the tire is clean. That was what Jesus was doing. Their sandals, their feet through the dust of the desert, everything was dirty and Jesus washed it. See there is no such thing as being too young, or being too old, or too big to serve Jesus.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me a heart like Yours, in Jesus Name.
