Obeisance
“Israel has sinned and broken my covenant!… That is why the Israelites are running from their enemies in defeat [therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies]…” Josh.7:11-12 [emphasis added]
You will Stand and prevail over your enemies in the Mighty Name of Jesus. The word obeisance is gotten from the word obedient. Obeisance is a gesture expressing deferential respect, such as a bow. Obedience to God is paying obeisance to God. When we bow to God we are obeying Him. When we obey God we are bowing to Him. Obedience to God is bowing to God. You must have heard this said, if you bow before God you will stand before any enemy.
But if you do not bow before God the converse is also true, you will not be able to stand before your enemies. Sin is disobedience [not bowing] to God. Sin is saying this is what God wants but I am not doing it. My life, my rules! Really? It is amazing how we think we own anything. You do not own anything; even your life does not belong to you.
God gave them an instruction but they sinned and they broke the Covenant. And God has said to stop crying, stop weeping, and stop asking foolish questions such as why couldn’t we have stayed on the other side of Jordan. The reason you are not able to Stand is because you have broken the Covenant. Every life has a Covenant. There is a general Covenant but everyone should locate his or her Covenant with God. God is saying to you, My hand is not short to save but there is an insulation.
Over ten years ago, someone asked me, “If I do not evangelize, will I go to hell?” I did not know the answer to the question. But Holy Spirit gave me the answer right there. At first I did not even know it was the Holy Spirit that gave me the answer. But when spoke I knew it was the Holy Spirit because I previously did not have such knowledge. And when people ask such questions, you know there are hidden things. So I said, why? I am not sure I know the answer to that. He said the Holy Spirit had been telling him to talk to someone about Jesus but he wants the person to suffer for his sins. And if he preaches to the person, the person will get saved. That was Jonah’s problem too. The answer that came out of my mouth was, “if you do not evangelize you will not go to hell on the surface. But the thing that made you disobey God can and will take you to hell.”
Prayer: Father, help me to bow my head, my heart, and my will to You always, in Jesus Name.
