Financial Control

Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender” Prov.22:7

Statistics show that over fifty percent of marriages that end up in divorce had to do with money. And guess what? Christians are not immune. Over fifty percent of divorce cases have a financial twist to it. I pray that financial vagueness in every marriage will disappear and beginning from today you will have total financial clarity. To get the facts at any price, there are four facts that you must know about your finances or joint finances as a married couple. #1. Know what you own. #2. Know what you owe. #3. Know what you earn. #4. Know where it is going.

Some people are in debt but they do not want to think about it. If you have ever been in debt, you can relate with that feeling. You just do not want to think about it. My advice is please, think about it and write it down. I was working with someone that was in so much debt but did not want to face it. I told him to get a pen, sit down and write down what he owed. It was like I was flogging him because of how painful it was for him. He will start, leave some out and then come back to own up to leaving details out. You cannot be free if you do not even have the facts. How much do you owe? You may need to make some financial decisions based on what you discover.

Personally, I prefer to be debt free and trekking, than to be driving a car and be in debt. This is my personal preference; I not saying this is what the Bible says. One of the decisions my wife and I made when we got married is that we will not borrow money or owe anyone. By the grace of God, we are going to be fifteen years married soon and we owe nobody nothing. It is simple; I choose not to owe and you can do it too. The Bible says, the borrower is a servant to the lender. And I choose to remain free because Jesus has bought my freedom at a very high price. I am not going to mortgage that freedom. When you are content, you will be shocked at how much financial freedom you have. You are not under any pressure to borrow for any reason. God says He will not withhold anything good from those that love Him, right? My job is to love God.

Prayer:  Father, please empower me not to be a slave to anyone but to live in the fullness of the freedom that Jesus has purchased for me, in Jesus Name.
