Protect Them
“Your sons born in your youth are a protection, like arrows in the hand of a warrior. Happy is the man who has his quiver full, for they will help and protect him when he is old… for his sons will stand with him against his enemies” Pr. 127:4-5 [Voice]
For two days now we have been learning how to take charge of ourselves, take charge of our minds, and take charge of the content our children are consuming on different media platforms. As parents we are responsible because God has entrusted the lives and the destinies of these children into our hands. Statistics show that in just one year, a typical teenager has been exposed to visual input of fourteen thousand [14000] sexual encounters. In one year, the child will become what the child has been programmed to become. Do not think that you can just fast, pray and bully the child. They will listen but after a while it is what has been programmed that will come out. By the time a child is eighteen years, he or she has seen over a hundred thousand [100,000] sexual liaisons portrayed on television.
I am not just out to give you bad news today; the point is to let you see the extent of the problem so that you can protect yourself and protect your children. Think about it, if as an adult you consistently watch questionable media content, you will begin to behave like a rascal. Then you can imagine how that affects the children and the teenagers; they stand no chance. God is entrusting you with them and putting them in your care.
Are you going to allow the television to babysit your children or are you going to babysit them yourself? The truth is that a lot of the television media content, movie content and social media content, have a way of lowering our resistance to sin. Not all the content on these platforms are bad obviously, but a lot of them are questionable. And they lower our resistance to sin by doing four main things:
#1. By Glamorizing Sin: At some point in Nigeria, the people that were front and center of the social circles were people that had stolen money. And youngsters see those magazines, and are enticed by the “glamorous life” and just want to be like them. When you talk to them, all you hear them say is, they want to “make it” or “to hammer”. What it takes to “make it” or “to hammer”, they have no clue because they have a shaky footed education; all they want is money. That is a disaster waiting to happen.
Prayer: Lord, help me train my children according to Your precepts so that they will stand with me in old age against my enemies, in Jesus Name.
