True Worth
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it” Eph.2:8-9 [emphasis added]
Many of us are quick to think that Jesus came to make good people better. And while we would admit that we are not where God wants us to be, but in our hearts we believe we are good. And we believe that it is because of that little goodness that Jesus came to help us to be better. I am sorry but that is not why Jesus came. Some believe that they are a little bad so they need Jesus to make them good. I am sorry to disappoint you again but Jesus did not come to make bad people good.
So what did Jesus come to do? Jesus came to make dead people alive. Jesus came to bring back to life the people that were dead in their sins. It is not about good becoming better. It is about the dead becoming alive. Jesus came to find people that were lost and had no hope. Jesus came to find them and give them hope. So do not fall into the trap of “church people” that think Jesus has come to make the good better.
In a few chapters before this in Luke 15, Jesus shared the parable of the prodigal son. Pay attention to what the father said, “For this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.” Lu.15:24 [emphasis added]. Note that the father did not say that he was bad and now has become good. The father called it what it is; he was dead and he was lost but now he is found, so party with me. We do not celebrate life change enough because we see life change as moving from good to better or as moving from bad to good. That is why when someone testifies of how he was without Christ and now he is with Christ we just gloss over it.
When we recognize that life change is about someone that was dead and now is alive, we will rejoice. That is why the Bible said there is a party, a celebration going on in heaven over one soul. Have you ever wondered why the whole of heaven is celebrating over one soul? It is because we do not see what God has done. I pray from today, we will see what God has done and what God is doing in our lives, in Jesus Name. It is not from good to better, it is from death to life. “And I, the Son of Man, have come to seek and save those like him who are lost.” Lu.19:10
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You for a fresh understanding of the true worth of what You have done for me and I truly am grateful. Thank You Lord, in Jesus Name.
