Cost Of Favour

“For God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.” So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.” Rom.9:15-16 [emphasis added]

You will not go very far if you think you have to deserve everything you get. For where God is taking you to, you are going to get things you do not deserve. So do not feel bad or become apologetic. Just thank God for His favour and for giving you what you do not deserve. If you wait to earn everything, you are going to be very slow in this life. God is saying to you, I am going to give you favour, I am going to give you what you do not deserve. There are levels of grace, levels of favour, and levels of glory; “…for one star differeth from another star in glory” 1Cor.15:41 [KJV]

One thing you need to know about God is that God has favourites. I know that some parents desire to be perfect parents, not having any favourites among their children. Do not deceive yourself. Do not get me wrong, having favourites does not mean you do not love your children. God loves all of us. But naturally, even as a parent, your heart will incline more towards one child than the others. The mature thing to do would be not putting your favoritism on display. But if you were truthful to yourself, you would admit you have a favourite child. We are created in God’s image and God has favourites; read your Bible. I have solid Christian friends that cannot accept this and I just smile because if you check in scripture, God always has favourites.

Some time ago, I gave a little boy five hundred naira and the boy was ecstatic. He was hugging me and thanking me. I was his best uncle on earth. Does he deserve the five hundred naira? No, but I gave it to him undeserved. Then his older sister walked in and I decided to give her a thousand naira. She was happy but this boy’s joy had turned into sorrow. He still had the money in his hands but he was sad, grumbling and he had a bad attitude. Why should she get one thousand naira? Isn’t this how we are? God has given you five hundred naira that you do not deserve and did not work for. And God has chosen to give someone else one thousand naira; is He not God?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I rejoice at Your decision to favour me and everyone around me. I will not be consumed with jealousy, in Jesus Name.
