At The Roots

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Rom.8:32 [NKJV]

If you check, you will find favour at the root of every rivalry. One person has been favoured above another. So the other person is jealous, bickering and comparing himself with the favoured person. If you cannot stand people being jealous of you, you cannot stand favour. God is going to favour you but you have to be comfortable with people being jealous of you. Get comfortable with it! To be in a place where nobody is jealous of you, is to be in a bad place; something is wrong.

If you think about the two children from yesterday’s illustration, both of them actually had favour. But ones favour appeared to be higher. “For God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.” So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.” Rom.9:15-16 [emphasis added]. People react differently to this passage of scripture. One reaction is perhaps they have not been chosen as recipients for God’s mercy maybe because they are not just good enough. That is not how to think.

Another reaction to this Scripture {and this is how I respond to it} is, I actually get excited because the person saying this, is my Father so that just makes me happy. So I say to Him, Father let us have an experiment; bless me and let us even find out who will question you. Anoint me in a special way and let us see the person on earth that will give you a query. Isn’t that a good experiment? That is how to relate with God. You have to embrace God.

The truth is that God has already decided to show you mercy. If He did not withhold Christ Jesus from dying for me, what will He hold back from me? I need you to begin to see yourself like that. If God will not hold Jesus back from you, what will He hold back from you? Absolutely nothing! So as we transition into the New Year, you need to get comfortable with God’s decision to favour you. And when you see other people experiencing favour, rejoice, because He is your Father. And He is able to lavish the same favour on you.

Prayer: Father, I thank You because you have chosen to show me mercy and compassion. Help me get comfortable with Your favour over me, in Jesus Name.
