Pre-occupied?

Luke 8:7 [MSG]  “Other seed fell in the weeds; the weeds grew with it and strangled it.” [with emphasis]

Jesus explains Luke 8:7 in Luke 8:14 saying, “The seed that fell among weeds stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by life’s worries, riches, and pleasures, and they don’t mature.”  [NIV, with emphasis]. So the soil with weeds is a pre-occupied mind. A mind that is pre-occupied cannot tune-in to God. You need to ask yourself, what is preoccupying my mind?

What is a weed? A weed is anything I allow to rob me of my time with God. There was a time my game console became a weed. I was spending all my time trying to achieve gaming goals instead of with God. Weed! How much effort does it take for weeds to grow? None! A farmer makes no effort for the weeds to grow. A weed is a sign of neglect. When you neglect your walk with God, weeds grow in your life.

God wants to speak to you, He is not going to shout at you. God wants to talk to you.

1 Kings 19:¹¹ “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. ¹² And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper” [with emphasis].

The Bible says God was in the gentle whisper. Many times, we are not tuned-in and so we are too crowded to hear God’s gentle whisper. Today, I believe God wants you to slow down so that you can hear His gentle whisper. But if you and I do not get rid of distractions, we would not hear God’s gentle whisper. It is so important for us to get this and take deliberate steps to eliminate distractions from our lives. God’s voice is key to our success as children of God. We all need to get this because, it better equips us to deal with distractions. Make up your mind today not to let anything choke your time with God.
