Fine Tuning

Deut.4:29, “If you search for God with all your heart and soul, you will find Him.”

Hearing God comes with the added commitment to do what He says. You cannot say, “Lord talk to me, say what You have to say and I will consider it among my other options then decide what I really want to do”. If that is how you want to deal with God, God will just ignore you. You cannot ask for God’s input on a matter and then you [a mortal man] will decide in your infinite wisdom, God’s input as one of your options. No! If you want to hear God, you must first of all decide to obey God. Obeying God is not always convenient but the result is always very pleasant. Do you really want to hear God or is it just an option that you want to consider? To fine tune, you must want to hear and obey.

Lesson #2: I must withdraw. Get alone, in a quiet place with God. If you do these things I am teaching you, your life will change totally. Hab.2:1, “I will climb up into my watchtower…”. A commitment to climb up is a commitment to leave some things behind. John the Baptist left Caesar, Pontius Pilate, and all the state’s political maneuvering. He left Annas, Caiaphas and even church politics and went into the wilderness.

John the Baptist withdrew. You have to learn how to withdraw so that you can hear God. You cannot hear God’s voice while you are surrounded by noise. The truth is that if you learn the art of withdrawing even when you are surrounded by noise, because you know how to quiet your soul to hear God, you will still be able to hear God. But you will still have to go back into the quiet place to recharge periodically.

Some parents think achieving “quiet” in a house with children is impossible. I want to encourage you with the story of Susannah Wesley. She had nineteen children but every day she prayed at least one hour for her children and her husband. All her children did well in life; two of them changed the face of Christianity. Why? It was because they had a praying mother. John Wesley founded the Methodist church and Charles Wesley wrote a lot of the hymns we sing today.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I earnestly search for You. My soul thirsts for you. My whole body longs for you [Ps.63:1], in Jesus Name. Amen!
