Un-Afraid

Rom.8:31 “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”

There is a difference between fear and danger; you and I must realize this difference. You can be afraid when there is no danger and you can be in danger and not be afraid. Haven’t you seen a child standing on the ledge of a building un-afraid? Even though the child is in danger, the child is not afraid. A person can be afraid and not be in danger. So you need to differentiate between the two.

Take the story of these cartoon characters, Tom [the cat] and Jerry [the mouse]. Jerry does not fear Tom and that is why he can go around playing all sorts of pranks on Tom. Jerry does not fear Tom but Jerry is afraid of the danger that can come from Tom’s claws. That is why Jerry runs away. It is instructive that ,when you talk about danger and fear, safety is not in the absence of danger. Safety is in the Presence of God. It is in the Presence of God that safety is guaranteed.

Back to Tom and Jerry; Jerry drinks Tom’s milk and Tom is in hot pursuit after Jerry. They go round the bend, up the building, down the shaft, through the bushes and into the alley. Tom stops abruptly because he sees Jerry just standing there. There is more to this; this mouse that has been running for dear life is suddenly standing boldly and waiting for him to come. So he approaches Jerry but slowly and as soon as Tom gets close enough to see the bull dog behind Jerry, the chase reverses. The hunter becomes the hunted.

Similarly, the Word of God says, “the Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and they are safe”. You may have been running for days but when you come into the Name of the Lord, just stop and pose. Perhaps it is a colleague that is determined to chase you out of your position and occupy it. You have been running and running but when they get to the office and see you posing they will surely ask if you are okay. They are confident that they have intimidated you but they will soon see the bulldog in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Prayer: God is my fortress and strong tower, in You I put my trust and nothing shall by any means harm me or over power me because the Lord is with me, in Jesus Name. Amen!
