Just Give!

Prov.11:24Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.”

In God’s Favourite House, we have a community outreach program called “Everything-4-50”. As a church, we challenge ourselves to give away things still in good condition to people we know that need them but cannot afford them. On one of such drives, someone said charity begins at home, so we ought to sell the items among ourselves first. I laughed because that is the spirit of poverty speaking. You ought to see it as an opportunity, regardless of what you have or do not have, to give and receive.

It is more blessed to give than to receive. The truth is that more people need guidance than people actually realize, particularly, those that appear knowledgeable. Do you want to die of poverty? Some people are at a stage where all they have is three shirts. My advice is give one away and watch what God will do. If you keep holding on to it, it will eventually lose its value in your hands. Do not seek to take, seek to give. You cannot fast and pray your way into financial abundance. Just give. I literarily broke the back of poverty in my life by giving.

Are you one of those that feel that he or she has given everything there is to give and there is nothing left? Do not buy into that lie. Some things just work by principles. I do not claim to be sharp; I just find out what works and I do what works. If I discover that prayer works, then I am going to pray. I have discovered that giving works, so I will keep giving. You need to change your thinking and give your way out of that tight place.

I typically would ask, “Lord what should I give today?”. In this particular instance, I had just gotten my allowance that day and I felt God calling for it, I knew God wanted to stretch me so I gave it all. I figured someone was going to give me a ride and another will give me money. But it did not play out like that; I had to walk a long distance home in the rain but I was so joyful. Still, I kept giving and one day someone knocked on my door with a software job for me. I asked for a hundred and fifty thousand and they agreed. Immediately, I remembered that sacrifice. Keep praying, keep fasting but you have to give because it is more blessed to give than to receive; these are the words of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, I commit to acting on this truth and to growing in giving and irrational generosity, in Jesus Name. Amen!
