Limiting Fear
Ps.112:7 “They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. 8 They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly”
Apart from paralyzing potential, the second thing fear does is: Fear Ruins Relationships. Fear can actually destroy relationships. In fact, nothing destroys relationships faster than fear. It was fear that destroyed Adam’s relationship with God. Gen. 3:10 “. . . I was afraid and hid from you…” [GN, with emphasis]. In other words, Adam was saying, “I was afraid and I damaged my relationship with You”. Yes, Adam had disobeyed but it was fear that caused him to hide from God instead of running to God. I pray that you and I will always run to and not from God, in Jesus Name.
As can be seen from the story of Adam, fear pressures us to cover up. The fear of rejection pressures people to put up a mask to cover up. Covering up means building a wall and when those walls are built, there cannot be a flow in the relationship. Over time, that relationship suffers. In fact the greatest hindrance to intimacy in any relationship [with man and with God] is fear. Fear also pushes people to pretend to be what they are not. People are afraid to be themselves even in their marriages. Couples are afraid that if they freely express themselves, their spouse will reject them. And so they live plastic lives; strangers living and sleeping in the same house.
The truth is that fearful people cannot give or receive love. Fearful people cannot experience love. It is not about the dread of the person you are living with but about the depth of your love. You can tame even the most dreadful people with love – have faith. Fearful people do not commit because they are afraid of commitment.
The truth is that fear affects everyone in your life. Your fear affects everyone you relate with. Parents have ruined the lives of their children because of their own fears. Let your children be who God has called them to be. Set them free. You will not destroy your children out of fear, in Jesus Name.
Prayer: Father, in the Name of Jesus, I decree that I will not be limited by fear but I will trust in the Lord who delivers me from all fears, in Jesus Name. Amen!
