Set Free

Josh.1:9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Caution! Fear ruins relationships. A lot of bosses stifle the creativity of their people because they are afraid. They are afraid that if they allow the creativity to flourish, those people may take over their jobs. And such people stand on one spot, waiting to stop the creativity of others. Instead, let others flourish and free yourself to also develop and flourish.

A lot of parents cannot let go of their children because they are afraid. I know someone that built a house like a campus with living space in it for all his children. They are free to get married but all of them are to live there. What such parents are saying in essence is that none of their children should be greater than them. And their excuse is that the world is a wicked place. The question is, “Are you going to live for ever? What happens when you die?” You are not going to live forever. So, set them free. The earlier you set them free the better for you.

With learning to ride a bicycle for example, until the rider is set free, he or she can never learn how to ride. Will he or she fall? Yes, but let them fall; it will teach them how to get up and balance. I got a bicycle for my birthday gift as a child but I did not know how to ride it. My older brothers could ride the bicycle without the training wheels but I could not. Sometimes they would physically hold the bicycle while teaching me and I will be peddling confidently.

On one of such days, they left the bike and I had peddled to the end of the street before realizing that I was alone.  I was immediately thrown into panic. The same person that rode the bike alone was now struggling because he discovered that there was nobody holding it. Many of us are afraid to release our potential because there is nobody holding “the bike”. You need to set yourself free. That day, I learnt how to ride the bicycle because it dawned on me immediately that I really could ride. And that was the end of the support. I began to ride my bike from then on. My point is that I would never have been able to ride a bicycle if I did not overcome my fear of falling.

Prayer [song]: Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders. Let me walk upon the waters wherever You would call me.  Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander, and my faith will be made stronger in the Presence of my Savior… Amen!
