Stop!

Matt.6:²⁵ “Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?”

What makes for high quality life is not money. I can tell you that for a fact. I have been married for over a decade and by God’s grace I am happily married. I look back to the seasons we did not have and the seasons we have, the truth is money did not determine the times we were happy at all. We are getting happier everyday and it just so happens that we are getting wealthier everyday too. Stop linking the quality of your life to the amount of money you have. So that your life does not pass you by before you discover that it is not the amount of money you have that determines your happiness.

You and I are not to worry about money because Jesus says it is unnatural. Matt.6:²⁶ “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they?” [with emphasis]. Who’s heavenly Father? Jesus points us to even the grass in the field and to all of nature, God provides for them. So for you to worry about finances is not natural. The birds never have to consider building bigger nests for retirement. It is unnatural to worry about finances. Jesus says, look at the birds, look at nature, they do not even worry or loose sleep. So why should you?

God taught me that it is unnatural to worry about finances years ago. When I just got married, there were seasons we struggled to pay our rent. And my wife would remind me about the due date and the fact that we did not have the money to pay. She thought that I was very strange because I just refused to worry. One day I said to her, “Worrying will not pay the bills” If I were to get worried guess what will happen? I will be cranky and make her life more miserable. Which will get her worried and make our lives even more miserable. In all of God’s creation, man is the only one that worries about provision. Jesus said, the birds do not sow or reap yet your heavenly Father feeds them. How much more you? Worrying is so unnatural; it crushes our health because our bodies are not designed to worry. When you worry, your health begins to deteriorate – headaches, sleepless nights and so on. Worrying is unreasonable and it is unnatural.

Prayer : I declare in Jesus Name that I will not be given to worry but to trusting in my heavenly Father that values me above all of creation, in Jesus Name. Amen!
