Pay Attention

Deut.11:22 “Be careful to obey all these commands I am giving you. Show love to the Lord your God by walking in his ways and holding tightly to him.”

In yesterday’s devotional, our closing thought was that for you to step up, you have to Listen Up! However, there are two things inherent in listening up. The first thing is for us to pay attention [be attentive] to His voice. Many times, God is speaking but we are not listening. God is telling us what He wants us to do and how to approach the task but we are not paying attention. There is too much noise around us. The world has become busier and louder and there are many channels these days clamoring for our attention.

I stumbled on this picture and it is a visual representation of how inattentive people can be. See the sheep – sunglasses on, ears plugged, radio blaring, reading sheep digest, television on, and laptop on his laps. And can you see where the Bible is? And he is wondering why he does not hear the shepherd anymore. Imagine that! Meanwhile, the shepherd is behind him screaming, trying to get his attention above all the noise. God says in Isa.30:21Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. You will hear a voice behind you saying this is the way walk in it”. But many times we have crowded out God’s voice.

Even right now, in this place of devotion, all the things that you heard and saw before are coming at you from different directions, clamoring for your attention. Meanwhile, God is trying to tell you something. We have to pay attention to His voice.

Prayer [song]: Shepherd of my soul, I give You full control. Wherever You may lead, I will follow. I have made the choice to listen for Your voice. Wherever You may lead I will go. Amen!
