Eye Witness II
John 20:25 “They told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.”
One of the striking things about God is that He is committed to record the whole truth about everyone in His Word. Like Peter, Thomas was not going to stick his neck out for Jesus without a hundred percent proof. John 20:27 “Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!” 28 “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.” This Thomas was killed in India. How? They ran a spear through his bottom to his head. Thaddeus was crucified at Edessa (the name of cities in both Turkey and Greece) in 72AD. Simon the zealot was crucified in England 74AD.
Why is this important? All the disciples were killed for their witness in different parts of the world, at different times and they held unto the same witness. Remember, these same people except John where nowhere to be found when Jesus was crucified. Let’s say they all agreed to lie at the upper room, I am certain that after fifty years, someone would have told the truth about what really happened. If they had stolen the body after Jesus’ death, one of them would eventually have given up the location where he was buried. They all died horrible deaths because they saw Christ crucified. Even if I could not believe anyone, I would believe Thomas’ witness. Jesus is alive!
Francis J. Lamb, a renowned scientific attorney, gives this summation about Jesus even though he was not a believer. “Tested by the standards and ordeals of jural science, by which questions of fact are ascertained and demonstrated in contested questions of right between man and man, in courts of justice, the resurrection of Jesus stands as a demonstrated fact.’’ – Francis J. Lamb (The Miracle and Science). In other words, after weighing all the evidence, Francis Lamb says there is enough proof that this Jesus resurrected!
Personally, beyond the proof and the witnesses, I know Jesus is alive because of what He has done in my life. I was literarily going straight to hell but Jesus has changed my life. The transformations that have happened in my life cannot be by my strength. I have seen Jesus!
Prayer [song]: I believe in Jesus. I believe He is the Son of God. I believe He died and rose again. I believe He paid for us all… Amen!
