Incomparable

Isa.46:9 “Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me. 10 Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.”

As human beings, it is natural for us to create an image of someone we have not seen but our imaginations are faulty. People have created pictures of Jesus that they carry on their bracelets. It is idolatry – and it is wrong. Some people are carrying pictures of Mary or pictures of angels that look like midgets, because they want to associate with divinity and so they can feel connected to God. As much as those things make people feel good on the temporary, it robs God of His glory.

The truth is that God is greater than man’s highest imagination; greater than your highest imagination. Think of the most powerful being ever. Guess what? God is more powerful than that. Think of how glorious God can be, as glorious as your mind can conjure up, God is even more glorious than that. Think of the most loving father ever, guess what? God is even more loving than that. Nothing in creation can fully represent the Creator. God does not want us to make any image of Him because we will fall short of His glory. Isa.46:5To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” God has no equal, no semblance!

Do not get me wrong, imagination is good – it is a gift from God. God wants us to use our imagination, but we cannot know God simply by imagination, we must know God primarily by revelation. God has revealed Himself in His Word. What does the Word say? – That is who God is. Beyond that we have to know God by experiences in the Holy Spirit, whatever God reveals to you is revealed to you. God is not a tool to be used, not an idea to be debated, not a position to be taken, and not a force to wield. God is a person to be loved.

God is who He is. Augustine of Hippo puts it this way, “idolatry is worshipping what should be used and using what should be worshipped.” Idolatry is regarding The One that is meant to be worshipped as a tool that exists for our convenience and our pleasure. That is the second greatest battle of man, the battle of worship, me or Jesus?

Prayer [song]: Indescribable, uncontainable, You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name. You are amazing God! All-powerful, untameable, awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim. You are amazing God! Amen!
