Acknowledge Him
1 Thess.5:18 “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” [with emphasis].
The root word for “be thankful” or “give thanks” in this scripture, means gratitude, appreciation, praise, and recognition. God is saying, be grateful, show appreciation, give praise, show acknowledgment, and recognition in all things and not for all things.There are situations you find yourself in that have nothing to do with God. It is like you are giving Him credit for what He did not do. Stop thanking God for what is broken or for what is from the enemy, because in most cases it has nothing to do with God.
Imagine a woman gets home from work to find her shoes in the dustbin in between balls of tissue. She then walks up to her husband and starts thanking him for putting her shoes in the dustbin. Do you think her husband will accept it? I do not think so. Her husband would not take the fall for it. Similarly, you cannot thank God for what the devil did. You should not thank God for all things. Instead, thank God in all things. Does this mean that God does not do bad things? Absolutely! God does not do bad things because God is altogether good and altogether lovely. If you feel that God does some things that are not good, trust me, that conclusion is purely based on your own judgment.
Even in judgment God is altogether righteous. God is a just God. If God brings a plague upon a land, we most likely would say it is an evil thing that happened to that land. But as far as God is concerned, it is righteousness that has happened to that land. I need you to open your heart to this and understand it even though it does not line up with your theology. Get into God’s Word and grow in your understanding of His heart.
God does not do bad things. Before God even judges, God warns. How many people wake up in the morning, look at their children, and come up with a plot to cause them trouble? I do not think any parent does that; so why do we think God will? God says if you that are natural do what is good for your children, how much more Him? God is far better than you! If you cannot do it to your children God is not going to do it to you – bank on it.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I worship You and just as Your Word instructs, I will be thankful in all things because You are good and Your mercy is forever, in Jesus Name. Amen!
