Just Do It!

Deut.28:¹ “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world.

The change we desire in our lives and in our spheres of influence begins with the punch of obedience. The leapers were looking for change in their lives, health, and status. Jesus said to them, “Go and show yourself to the priest…”. Just obey! We thank God for the grace to think and to reason things out. However, as children of God we must know when to set aside our reasoning and just obey God. However, instead of obedience, what you find is people trying to cut corners and use their brains to figure things out. How would heaven help such people? In yesterday’s devotional, we highlighted that the Church in Nigeria is a praying Church. However, the biggest challenge facing the Church in Nigeria is obedience. We do not require muslims, or free thinkers, or atheists, or traditionalists to obey God. If every Christian obeys God in Nigeria, there will be drastic change.

I have the privilege of Pastoring a great church and really great people in God’s Favourite House and I am really grateful to God. However, in my conversations with people, I find that some people just do not understand the power behind obedience. For instance, in a counseling session the person or people before me, are telling me about the events that have led up to their coming to see me. I listen intently, and I am consistently checking with the Lord. After listening, I say I have just one thing to say, do x-y-z. I tell them what I believe God would have them do. Most times, the next thing that follows is, ‘did you hear everything we just said?’ They are convinced that theirs’ is a deliverance case.

A lot of times God is giving an instruction, but people are busy looking for the spectacular, and in the process, people actually miss God. God wants you to obey Him. The Word of God says in 2 Chron.20:²⁰ (NKJV) “…Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” I am not saying I am a prophet but by God’s grace I hear from God and I speak His mind. If you do the things you are thought, your life will change. Do you know why God is unapproachable or why God hides Himself? God hides Himself in light. God emanates light and light protects Him. Obedience to God makes you a partaker of that light and so you do not have to struggle. In obedience, God shares His light with you and your life is hid in Him. Guess what? The people that actually take those instructions in counselling and act on it, always come back with testimonies. Obedience positions you to experience God coming through for you.

Prayer: Father God, You made me, please give me the sense to obey every Word that proceeds from You and from Your prophets, in Jesus Name. Amen!
