Uncommon
Isa.55:8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
When I first gave my life to Christ, I would pray about something, but I would not stop at praying alone. I would also give God several options and methods He can use to execute my request. I can tell you that God did not go with any of my ideas and that drives me to stay on my face before God. He does what I have asked for, but He does it in His own way. As human beings, we often expect God to move in certain ways or certain directions, but He does things in a totally different way. We expect that the deliverance we are expecting will come in a certain way, but we discover very quickly that God has a mind of His own. This makes us very uncomfortable because we like to be in control, at least of our lives.
My late Pastor would say to me, and I have found it to be true, “Every time you see the world going in one direction, God is in the other direction”. Check it out for yourself; every time you see the world strong in one direction, God is going the other way. But unfortunately, we are influenced largely by trends and by things. When Adam and Eve fell in the garden of Eden, God had an idea and His idea was not Adam’s idea. Adam’s idea was first to cover himself with fig leaves. God replaced Adam’s fig leaves with the skin of a lamb that He killed by Himself. Signifying the lamb of God that would be slain. Then God said to the serpent, the seed of this woman will bruise your head [Gen.3:15]. In other words, the child of this woman will bring salvation.
When God wanted to solve the problem of humanity, God sent a child to the rescue. Now picture this, an estate is under siege by armed robbers and these robbers are armed to the teeth with every kind of weapon. Someone is able to call for help and the Army sends a toddler in diapers. The toddler shows up at the estate gate, complete with diapers and pacifier, and declares he has come to deliver everyone. Ridiculous right? That is exactly how the birth of a baby to save the world from sin looks. I have friends that struggle with this concept; how can a virgin conceive? They say to me, ‘Monehin you are intelligent, how can you believe this fable?’ I would say to them “It is not a fable and yes, I actually believe it.” The question that usually follows is, ‘Are you not using your brain?’
God does not think like we think, and He does not do what we expect Him to do. He does what He wants to do. Most times, God works in the most unusual ways; He sends a child to the rescue. Isa.9:6 “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us…”
Prayer: Father, I acknowledge that Your ways are nothing like my ways, and Your thoughts are higher than mine. I submit to Your way and Your plan, in Jesus Name. Amen!
