Majesty
Ex.15:11 (KJV) “Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
No god can stand against the God of creation! We recently looked at 1 Kings 18:20-40a. Elijah challenged Ahab and the prophets of Baal to a contest of gods. So, the children of Israel led by Ahab and the prophets of Baal raised an altar to Baal. In an attempt to prove their god, the prophets of Baal were cutting themselves, screaming just to get Baal to respond and to show up. But there was no response from Baal. Elijah stood on the altar and said, “Let the God that answers by fire be God. Oh God, hear me!” (paraphrased). And fire came from heaven.
Do you think the prophets of Baal were crazy? If Baal had not been answering them before that day, would they have taken up such a challenge? They knew that there is a real spirit called Baal and he had been answering them with all sorts of signs. So, they took on Elijah’s challenge with all confidence. But from morning till afternoon, until evening the prophets of Baal were calling on Baal. They were shouting “Baal help, Baal, send fire, Baal we are waiting” but there was no response from Baal. The question is, where was Baal on that day and why did he not respond?
Elijah gave us a hint when he suggested that Baal must have gone to relieve himself and was probably why he was not responding to his prophets. Let me tell you where Baal was? Baal was in hiding because Jehovah was standing by Elijah. Baal was in hiding and was probably saying to himself; “These people will not put me into trouble today! Who should show up to a contest with Jehovah? Who, me? Never! These people are not serious – me, show up?” No god can stand beside Him, the God of creation. There is no God that can compare with Jehovah. Mariam burst out in tongues when they came out of Egypt, singing – Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
The Philistines made a huge error in 1 Sam. 5 & 6 (please read). The Jews had judged wrongly, they assumed that because the Ark of God was with them, they would win in battle. However, God was not happy with them and the Philistines captured the Ark and took it to the house of their god, Dagon. When they showed up in the morning to worship Dagon, the Ark was standing but their god, Dagon was bowed down on the floor before the Ark of Jehovah.
Prayer (song): Majesty, worship His majesty. Unto Jesus be all glory power and praise. Majesty, Kingdom authority flows from His throne unto His own, His anthem raise. So exalt, lift up on high the Name of Jesus. Magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus the king… Amen!
