Compelling Focus
Philippians 3:13-14 “I don’t depend on my own strength to accomplish this; however I do have one compelling focus: I forget all of the past as I fasten my heart to the future instead. I run straight for the divine invitation of reaching the heavenly goal and gaining the victory-prize…”
Thomas Jefferson said he is much more interested in the dreams of the future than reviewing the history of the past. Some people are so hung up on reviewing the past. It is okay to review the past maybe five percent (5%) of your time. I am so focused on the dreams of the future than reviewing the history of the past. In 1957, they built bungalows in my village and that is why we have not been able to build story-buildings. Who cares? I am about to tell you a huge secret, something you have never heard before, I can assure you. This secret is going to make a huge difference in your life because not many people have heard it before. In fact, it is fresh from heaven, and this is the secret, YOUR PAST IS OVER! Your past is gone, that is why it is called past. Yes, it happened but you are not going to be defined by it. It is gone. Now, lift up your head and look into a bright future ahead of you. No Small Dreams!
The dream deflators of Family, of Friends, of Fatigue, and of Failure all come together in the fifth dream deflator Fear. In Num.13:1-30 (please read), twelve spies were sent to check out the land of Canaan. Ten came back and said, ‘No show! We are dead, they are going to finish us.’ [paraphrased]. But two disputed their report. God wanted them to go see how big and how beautiful the land is. The ten admitted that the land was big, but they said there was also a problem. ‘There are giants in the land!’ Why did God not tell them that there were giants in the land? Do you think God did not know there were giants there or did the giants hide when God went to inspect the land? God knew there were giants in the land so why didn’t God tell them? It is because most times, we confuse the dreaming phase with the building phase.
The dreaming phase is for dreaming. It is not the building phase. Ask anyone involved in any form of building design, at the point of designing a building, a project, or any infrastructure, you only focus on what is possible. By the time it is done, no matter how realistic you want to be, by the time you begin to implement it, it is never as planned. You are going to meet roadblocks and meet challenges. You are going to have to navigate different waters. But do not try to think up creative ideas and evaluate them at the same time. If you do, you will kill your creativity. Do not try to think up the big dream and at the same time worry about how. When you are thinking of the big dream, forget about the how. That is how big thinkers think. When you are thinking of the Promise Land, focus on the milk and honey and forget about the giants. Why? It is because the giants are irrelevant. They are meat for you if you can get the fire of the dream into your system. Every great idea has problems, if you focus on the problem at the time of dreaming you will never dream big enough. Focus on the dream and ignore the problem.
Prayer: Father, thank You for defeating all the dream deflators in my life; I am depending You to focus and accomplish every dream you have put in my heart, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!
