Traction

Psalm 18:35-36 “You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great. You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.”

If we are to make progress, if we are to move forward, we need Traction. So, for this season we will be focusing on Traction. Traction because at this time of the year, we need to get a grip and move forward! For those of us who drive, we may be familiar with this scenario; driving through a muddy terrain when it rains. Then you get to a point where the ground looks firm but as soon as your tyres that are powered get in, they spin but there is no movement. The more you accelerate, the more the tyres spin but still there is no forward movement.

What is happening here is the grip of the surface of the tyre is either not making contact at all or there is not enough grip to create the friction that would create the forward movement based on that rotation. And when there is no grip, there cannot be the frictional force that would create the forward movement based on the rotation, we say that the car does not have traction. For many of us, this is the story of our lives. There is a lot of energy, a lot of rotation, and a lot of motion but there is no movement. Today, in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, your life will get traction, you will get a grip, and you will move forward.

The truth is, it can be frustrating when we are in a situation where we are making the effort but there is no traction. So, if you think about your life, what are the things that frustrate you? Many of us do not have to think far because what comes to mind immediately is traffic. For some people it is taxes. Yet for some, it is their hair that is frustrating. For others, it is work that is frustrating. For some, it is the generator that will not come on or is out of fuel. But when I think deeply about my life, and I am sure you will find that this is true for you also, what really frustrates me is when I know what I should do but I still for some reason don’t do it. It is frustrating! Can you relate?

A lot of us have things penned down on our goals card, things we should have achieved by the end of January. But January is winding up and nothing yet. It can be frustrating. We all have things we want to do. For me, for instance, I have written out a few ideas I want to patent. By now I should have at least started engaging but they are still on the board. But it is going to be done by God’s grace. However, just seeing them on the board can be frustrating. But I need that frustration to get me going. Traction is the frictional force between two surfaces that creates movement without slipping. My prayer for you today is that God will give you the grace to get traction in the Mighty Name of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, please give me traction and keep me from slipping, in Jesus Name. Amen!
